Biografie

Began his career as a film critic. Directed his first short film, Perro Negro, in 1997 before enrolling in a Masters in Film Directing at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, where he graduated with a thesis titled The Last Attack of the Beast, receiving numerous awards. In 2005, he co-wrote and starred in Azazel Jacobs’ film The Good Times Kid, and in 2006 premiered his first feature film, Drama/Mex, at the Cannes’s Critics’ Week. His 2008 film, I’m Gonna Explode, was featured at the New York Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival, and won the FIPRESCI award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival. He participated in Revolución, a compilation of ten short films directed by contemporary Mexican directors. It premiered in Berlin and was selected as the best film at the Festival Biarritz Amérique Latine. He was included in Take 100, The Future of Film: 100 New Directors, a compendium of gifted emerging filmmakers from around the world that was published by Phaidon.
