Julija Kolesnik

Biografie

Yulia Kolesnik (b. 1970, Minsk) studied geography at Moscow State University and film direction in the experimental year headed by Marlen Khuziev at VGIK (2002). Apart from the documentary films An Island of Aphrodite (Ostrov Afrodity, 1997) and The Forellen Quintet (Forelny kvintyet, 2000), she made several short video films: The Gun (Ruzhyo, 1997), Impatience of Feelings (Nyetyerpeniye chuvstv, 1997), Materialization (Matyerializatsiya, 1998) and The Morning 2001 (Utro 2001, 1999). Her graduate short feature film Let's Go for a Walk (Progulka, 2002) was awarded Best Student Film at Karlovy Vary and elsewhere. She then established the Pinguin Pictures studio, she made clips for TV channel STS's programme Look! (Posmotri!), and she has been involved in video installations and photographic exhibitions. Lower Caledonia is her feature debut.
