Biografie

Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau (1888-1931) was a bold filmmaker of the silent era. He got a doctorate of philosophy, then went into theater and then film directing. He made his debut with the full-length film The Boy in Blue (Der Knabe in Blau, 1919). He found success and recognition with the films Nosferatu (1922), Phantom (1922) and Tartuffe (Herr Tartüff, 1925), and more in the USA with films like Sunrise: A song of Two Humans (1927) and Taboo: A Story of the South Seas (1931).
