Biografie

Paul Thomas Anderson (b. 1970, Studio City, Los Angeles) started out as an assistant television show producer, later assuming the same role on independent films as well. He developed his feature debut Hard Eight (1996) during the Filmmaker's Workshop at Sundance. A year later he released a drama set in the world of porn moviemaking, Boogie Nights, nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Screenplay. In 2000 he was honored with Berlin's Golden Bear for the Tom Cruise epic Magnolia (1999), which also played KVIFF. He tried his hand at comedy with Punch-Drunk Love (2002), returning to drama five years later with There Will Be Blood (2007), which took two Oscars and a Silver Berlin Bear for direction. For The Master (2012) he earned a Silver Lion at Venice. His latest film Inherent Vice (2014) brought him his sixth Academy Award nomination.
