Biografie

Ignacio Vilar spent his childhood in the Galician village of Castrofolla (Petín de Valdeorras, Ourense). At eighteen he moved to Barcelona, where he created a film school. In 1989 he won the Premio Carlos Velo prize for the screenplay to Ollo Birollo. His previous long feature, A esmorga (2014) was the first film shot in Galician nominated to a Goya Award (Best adapted screenplay) and the film that won the most awards at the XXth ediction of Cinespaña, Toulouse (France). Vilar won the Premio da Cultura Galega in 2015 for his commitment to the promotion of Galician language and culture. Sicixia is his latest film.
