Blokker chose 'grandparents' as the theme for the workshop. "Are there any grandparents left?", was the question he put to the five participants. His own grandfather was born in 1856, when Thorbecke was still alive and half of Holland still consisted of wasteland. Blokker remembers his grandfather as a man from another century, almost from another planet. Because he was doubtful whether elderly people like that still exist, he presented this question to the workshop people, obviously adding that he was interested in the grandparents' image: the image of elderly people who have nothing to do anymore 'socially', and can therefore devote all their time to their grandchildren. The picture book image of the grandmother (her hair in a bun, her dress from days of way back) who is in fact only baking pies, or reading, or recounting about the old days, or the 'Ot-and-Sien' image of a grandfather who is still plying a handsaw in a mysterious hobby attic. Corinne Falch, Peter Constandse, Ulrike Helmer, Rikkert Boonstra and Ingrid Perik each interpreted and elaborated this subject in a film of about five minutes. Together with cameraman Willem Heshusius, sound technicians Tom d'Angremond and Mark Glynne, editors Miro Andrzejewski and Gijs Zevenbergen, and producer Marion Hilhorst, they made Schakels, Zwart wit, Zielenschemer, Protest oma and Vroeger later, respectively.
