Things take time. In Russia sometimes more so: When a tractortrailer skids over the icy road from Moscow to St. Petersburg, the 200 ton heavy transformer it was carrying slides onto the street. The transformer contains a copper core. As long as it remains lying by the side of the road it is in danger – of being stolen and sold off at the black market. Valerij was witness to the accident and is given the task of guarding the transformer, until the company comes to pick it up. He will remain there for three months. So now Valerij spends his days in a trailer by the road, waiting to go home. The company people will have to come sooner or later, maybe tomorrow, or at least the day after. We see Valerij sitting in his chair, smoking into the camera lens. Laconically he talks about the accident, ranting about his boss, damning the transformer and his trailer to hell. His opinion of the people in the area couldn’t be much lower – no woman to spend the night with and they’ve even stolen his jeep. There’s always the Vodka though. (DOK.fest München)
