Dorota

Each day before daybreak, Dorota does her hair and makeup like a movie star. Dressed to kill, she takes the bus to the gigantic Real supermarket, where she works as a cashier. Her appearance clashes with the troubled expressions of the customers, who do their shopping and leave as quickly as they can. Back at home, she has a blue room and a pink room, a husband and two children. As she vacuums, Dorota keeps the picture of a happy family intact. Even if her life might look like a nightmare for many, she doesn't seem unhappy. She has everything under control. Only at night, when Dorota is sleeping, does she become vulnerable. Then, Zmijewski's camera is as unrelenting as ever: in night mode, he films the sleeping Dorota as she tries to protect her hairdo. She snores like a guy and before our eyes, the Barbie doll turns into a real person. Once her mask has fallen away, Zmijewski reverses the roles. Now, the viewer also has to go on the rack as well, beyond the boundaries of decency. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
