For Christian homosexuals in Calvinist Norway, it is hard to reconcile faith with love. So hard even, that some tormented youngsters commit suicide. In Be - Skitne, syndige meg, the sister and parents of the religious Bjørn Erik, who at the age of 20 disappeared without a trace, leaving behind some despondent diary notes, explain that they only found out that he was gay after he went missing. Bjørn Erik was a member of the Church of Norway and was convinced that he was living in sin because of his homosexual predilection. The filmmakers also talk with Jan-Aage Torp, a priest who helps homosexuals ‘free’ themselves by being converted and with two other priests who criticise Torp’s convictions and methods. The film contains some remarkable recent newscast images from Norwegian television, in which a former Christian Democratic minister and former Prime Minister severely condemn homosexuality.
