When he was 14 years old, David S. Ware, saxophone player from New York, played with Sonny Rollins. When he was twenty-five he performed in Carnegie Hall. At the peak of this spectacular and meteoric career he swapped his life in the spotlights for a job as a cab driver. Adroitly he steers his cab through the nocturnal chaos of New York. Sitting at the wheel, he explains why he renounced fame, but not music. From his taxi-cab, his perception acquires a delayed quality. He points out details which escape your attention if you lead a musician's hurried life, running from gig to recording session. If you want the possibility to make music as you like, you have to be able to determine your own tempo and rhythm. The film makes the influence of the speeding traffic on Ware's music tangible. At the end of this night-trip David plays his saxophone. The force of his improvised solo stands out well. David S. Ware is a musician who sounds the truth.
