Charlie Waldo (Charlie Hunnam) ist ein junger, in Ungnade gefallener Polizist, der einst an Reality-TV-Shows über Cops mitgearbeitet hat. Nachdem er einen unschuldigen Mann ins Gefängnis gebracht hat, schottet er sich voller Reue von der Außenwelt ab und lebt jahrelang ein einsames Leben als Einsiedler. Als Waldo erfährt, dass seine Ex-Freundin Lorena Nascimento (Morena Baccarin) ermordet wurde, will er der Sache auf den Grund gehen und beschließt den Fall, an dem sie zuletzt gearbeitet hat, zu untersuchen. Dabei stößt er auf den berühmten Filmstar Alastair Pinch (Mel Gibson), dessen Frau vor Kurzem tot aufgefunden wurde. Schließlich wird Waldo von einem Filmstudio gebeten, Alisters Unschuld zu beweisen und den wahren Mörder von Lorena und Alisters Frau zu finden... (Leonine)

Waldo, a former cop and professional weirdo, leaves his exile somewhat involuntarily for Hollywood to find out if TV star and professional alcoholic Alastair Pinch killed his wife, or if someone set him up. But in Hollywood, you can't trust anyone. Last Looks is a fine crime drama that isn't afraid to alternate suspense with bizarre humour, has a very fine cast and doesn't get boring. But it's more of a sequence of dialogue than a movie, because it's actually a lot of talking, mostly to make sure no one notices how cheap and underfunded the whole thing is. But once you get over that and get used to the cheaper look, it's actually unexpectedly good.
