Das Buch zum Einschlafen (1973) (S03E12)

Englisch In the twelfth episode, I encountered the problematic Bedtime Reading, then the Scottish kamikazes came on board, thanks to whom the skit No Time to Spare could appear. In the show Boundaries of Medical Science, I found out that penguins hide enormous potential, and I was delighted when I got a Soviet unit for the disposal of unexploded Scots. The show Catch the Moments disappointed me a bit, but the fierce competition between the reporters made up for everything. When I evaluated all the pros and cons, I couldn't give it less than five stars. ()

Grandstand (1973) (S03E13)

Englisch The final episode of the third season definitely did not disappoint me. I was captivated by the perfect appearance of Eric Idle as the host of the British Show Business Awards and the cunning antics in Oscar Wilde's house. The sketch "New Brain" seemed slightly weaker to me, but the following sketch "Blood Donation" was fantastic again. I also thoroughly enjoyed "Wife Swap" and Terry Jones shone as the "Piggy Vicar". If I had to choose one sketch from this episode, Oscar Wilde would definitely be the winner for me. ()

Season 4 (1974) (S04)

Englisch The fourth season doesn’t quite reach the level of the previous seasons. It's hard to say whether it’s due to the absence of John Cleese (not only as an actor but mainly as a co-writer), or whether John Cleese left because of the declining quality of the sketches. Anyway, I still think that even if the Pythons aren't doing their best, other filmmakers would give anything to match the quality of their worst effort. So, even though I wasn't exactly blown away by the fourth season, I still had fun. And that’s the point, right? ()

Das goldene Zeitalter der Ballonfahrt (1974) (S04E01)

Englisch In the first episode of the fourth season, I had a good laugh, but John Cleese's absence was noticeably felt. I admit that he was probably the most self-centered of the Pythons, but maybe that's why I missed him in this episode. The passage with von Zeppelin and O'Toole's farewell speech amused me the most this time, it was perfect. ()

Michael Ellis (1974) (S04E02)

Englisch The second episode was more successful in every aspect, I had much more fun, especially the scenes in the shopping center were excellent and delightfully absurd. I think the English can be happy that Michael Palin didn't become a salesman, the number of suicides among shoppers would surely have increased exponentially. ()

Hamlet (1974) (S04E04)

Englisch I have to rate the fourth episode similarly to the previous one, I enjoyed Hamlet and the fake psychiatrists as well as Michael Palin in the role of eccentric "Bobby", but the overall impression was once again average. The fourth season simply doesn't have the same spark that all three previous seasons had. ()

Mr. Neutron (1974) (S04E05)

Englisch The fifth episode was clearly "pulled" by Michael Palin, whether as a spokesperson for the commissioning of new mailboxes or as a commander of military operations against Mr. Neutron. But again, I must repeat myself, it just wasn't the same anymore. ()

Parteipolitisches (1974) (S04E06)

Englisch Even the final episode of the fourth season did not deviate from the previous episodes, rather average ones. I liked the sketch with the sale of Icelandic honey, the sketch with the expert advisor for finishing sentences, and the somewhat horror cricket match, but overall it didn't reach five stars. ()
