Twin Peaks

1st season: Excellent mysterious stuff and an impressive genre mix that every five minutes irradiates a completely different mood, all supported by excellent music and an assortment of amazing characters that gradually reveal hidden secrets. Fantastic finale. 2nd season: The bizarreness of Lynch’s world becomes fully manifested right in the first episode. Overall, the second season is a little weaker, but episodes like 7 and 9, which basically close the original main story arc, are again fantastic. The new plot that follows is also very good and interesting, peaking in the unforgettable episodes 21 and 22. It’s really impossible to avoid superlatives when describing Twin Peaks. PS: Given the shift to bizarreness between the first and second seasons, if they were to make a third season, I think the characters would have to at least travel in space, carry out a global revolution and appoint a plush owl as a ruler. This pilot was able to entice me to watch the rest of the series without any problems. I wonder how it will continue. (06.06.2009)

I don’t know. The first impression is tentative and contradictory, but I’m ready to review it after watching the whole series. It will greatly depend on where the new Twin Peaks goes with the remaining episodes and what will come out of it. So far, it’s really painful to watch Dale Cooper as he wanders from nowhere to nowhere with a sad expression, and his evil twin who looks like Pavel Kříž taking part in The Masked Singer disguised as Elvis. And the old familiar faces cringingly trying to act the same as 25 years ago. And the new characters that so far have failed to interest me. Basically, after 3 episodes, it has too little of the old Twin Peaks that I love, and too much of later Lynch which is beyond me. But it’s too soon to write a final opinion, the jury is not out yet. Well, that’s it. I went from the stage of “shit, this is very weird, slow and pointless, I don’t like it but I’m still interested”, to the stage of “this idiot is already pissing me off” – meaning Lynch. Like, really, fucking up Twin Peaks, my favourite series? They are two series in one: one third is a sequel of the old Twin Peaks, where after 25 years, we learn that NOTING INTERESTING HAS HAPPENED in our beloved little mountain town, and the other two thirds is a bunch of unrelated fragments mixing various plots and bizarre scenes that could be called “shit from a sick mind”. My patience ran out after the eighth episode (even though the seventh had raised some hopes) and I can’t help seeing this Return as a bad insult. I can’t understand the people that have rated it with five stars and I would really love to see a credible explanation as to why anyone thinks this is good. I don’t think there is any. PS: Small edit so the comment will not sound so offensive to the satisfied section of the public. Right after watching I felt embittered and the review seemed like a bad joke. (26.06.2017)
