It is May, 2004, and the Ukrainian singer Ruslana wins Eurovision. On the other side of the planet, her triumph is watched by Todd, whose parents bother him with never-ending questions about him finally getting a girlfriend, and Lesia, whose parents constantly harass her with bans and orders.
