In the case of street peddler Su, the story of the difficult lot of aging Chinese people who cannot keep up with the country's modernisation turns into a family drama. In the giant construction site that is 24th Street in Hangzhou, China, street peddler Su and his girlfriend Qin open up a ramshackle restaurant. But without the necessary permits, they and other residents of 24th Street are forced to leave. They could try to reopen elsewhere, but would face the same problem. So Su decides to return to his native home, where he left his wife and four children 30 years ago. Can Su's children, whom he has never cared for, accept their father, or will he forever remain an outcast in his own country? (One World)
