The wild and unexpected success of Easy Rider marked what is now considered one of the most important turning points in the history of American cinema, making its actor-director Dennis Hopper the unlikely king of New Hollywood. While in the middle of editing his next film, The Last Movie, a deeply personal meditation on the meaning of cinema and its creative process, Dennis Hopper agrees to be the star of a docu-drama, The American Dreamer, directed by Lawrence Schiller and LM Kit Carson. The artist wishes that the release of the two films be concomitant in order to fuel his status as an icon of the new generation.
