Nachdem sein Versuch, ins renommierte São Paulo Symphonieorchester aufgenommen zu werden, fehlschlug, ist der talentierte Violinist Laerte dazu gezwungen, Musikunterricht für Teenager an einer öffentlichen Schule in Heliópolis zu geben, dem größten Slum Brasiliens. Sein Weg ist voller Schwierigkeiten, aber die transformierende Kraft der Musik und die wachsende Freundschaft zwischen dem Lehrer und seinen Schülern öffnen Laerte die Augen für eine neue Welt. The film won’t rock your world but on the other hand it is good to watch something we can guess ahead once in a while. Even in a Brazilian slum, you can find few normal, nice people who want to change the world of a few youngsters. In this case it is by music. However, the life conditions there are hard and some people are not able to deal with that. The Violin Teacher is a perfect example of that but despite the not entirely pleasant characters, I was still able to enjoy the movie, especially because of the beautiful music.
