The Dutch artist Marjolijn Dijkman pieced this documentary together from excerpts from 70 popular films which are set at different moments in the distant future. She chronologically ordered well-known and lesser-known fictional worlds of futuristic cities as well as modern communities according to the period in which they were set. The result is a set of artistic ideas about the future development of mankind, in which certain trends can be traced. Among other things, Dijkman points out how only a few science fiction films, shot in the technologically optimistic period at the end of the 1960s and 1970s, projected their visions into a far distant future and indicated the desired reality. She also argues that almost all contemporary films represent the apocalyptic scenarios that occur not far from now. Their authors predict ecological and biological disasters, or the invasion of aliens, with the greatest emphasis on the technological crisis. (Academia Film Olomouc)
