Die Geschwister Marilla und Matthew Cuthbert entscheiden sich dafür, einen Waisenjungen zu adoptieren, der ihnen bei der Arbeit auf ihrer Farm „Green Gables" helfen soll. Doch als Matthew mit seiner Kutsche am Bahnhof vorfährt, um den Jungen abzuholen, wartet dort Anne Shirley auf ihn. Während der Kutschfahrt redet sich das fantasievolle rothaarige Mädchen mit den Sommersprossen sofort in Matthews Herz. Zuhause bei der schroffen Marilla angekommen, zweifelt diese aber an Annes Nutzen für die Farm. Sie will das Mädchen so bald wie möglich zurück ins Waisenhaus schicken. Wird Anne es schaffen, Marilla für sich zu gewinnen, um auf Green Gables bleiben zu dürfen? (ARD)

Martin Sheen played the character because of whom I decided to watch this film to the end. Other than that, I don’t understand why somebody has the tendency to turn the same old story into the same old movie thousand times over.

Such a nice family movie, where you hope everything turns out well and there is no other way it could end. Anne is a bit of an unwanted orphan who moves in with aging siblings. The problem is that they wanted a boy, but she is just as charming that they simply have to love her, just like the viewers will fall in love with her at that moment.
