The Red Mosque is one of the main centres of radical Islam in Pakistan. The supreme spiritual leader is Abdul Aziz Ghazi. In 2007, the government raided a mosque and his family were killed during the attack. Aziz then devoted his life to a single goal: overthrowing the secular government. The documentary provides comprehensive insight into contemporary Pakistan, where the poorest are forced to seek subsistence for themselves and their children from the generously and opaquely subsidised Red Mosque, while wealthier urban residents are well aware that these children, raised in Aziz's religious schools, are a ticking time bomb for all of society. Free access to schools allows filmmakers to capture in detail what young people are taught. And in surprisingly open interviews the character of Aziz himself comes across as remarkably three-dimensional. (One World)
