Logic is not knowledge, nor does it shape our knowledge. Nevertheless, it provides us with rules and systems of how to treat our knowledge. Logic is known to our society in many different forms, ranging from the most popular logic puzzle Sudoku to chess games against a virtual opponent. The first person to study premises and argumentation was Aristotle; however, the field has since been broadened by many other philosophers and mathematicians. The Vienna Circle was an association that counted many of the most important thinkers among its numbers. In the documentary The Joy of Logic, Professor Dave Cliff presents the historical changes of philosophical and mathematical views on the field of logic, explains how words have become symbols and via child actors demonstrates the basic principle of the binary system used in all computer software. Scientists have puzzled over explaining the principle of paradoxical argumentation, creating an algorithm or verifying the accuracy of the equation 1 + 1 = 2, which was proven by Bertrand Russell in his 300 pages long work Principia Mathematica by using logical calculations. The film also does not forget to mention the groundbreaking moment of the invention of the Turing machine. (Academia Film Olomouc)
