In der gottverlassenen Stadt Denton - von ihren zwielichtigen Bewohnern nur "Valley of Violence" genannt - trifft der Outlaw auf den berüchtigten Bandenführer Gilly. Die beiden geraten aneinander und es kommt zum Kampf. Weil er der Sohn des gnadenlosen Sheriffs (John Travolta) ist, lehnt sich kaum jemand gegen Gilly auf, doch Paul lässt sich nicht einschüchtern und stellt sich ihm als hartnäckiger Gegner in den Weg. Die Situation eskaliert und löst eine unberechenbare Kettenreaktion aus. Auf beiden Seiten wird der Ruf nach blutiger Rache immer lauter. Als dann auch noch ein grausames Geheimnis aus Pauls Vergangenheit ans Licht kommt, ist das Gemetzel nicht mehr zu stoppen ... (Universal Pictures Germany)

"Those men left me with nothing. I'm gonna leave them with less." In other words, they killed my dog, and I have no one to talk to. So before I kill you, I'll have a chat with you. The reception of Wild West West depends on your genre expectations. There's a lot of talking, a female element, and a comical role played by the oddly deformed Sheriff Travolta, who has clearly consumed more than a few quarter-pounders with cheese. This leaves room for ambivalence. However, this doesn’t apply to Jeff Grace's soundtrack, which successfully dresses up Morricone’s style in a modern duster.

It's evident that Ti West drew a lot of inspiration from Leone, but even though he took a wide aspect ratio and had good music, he didn't have a strong enough story, and there simply aren't characters worth investing in. The main character is okay, but the others are not. Travolta is boring, Taissa is unused, and the others just talk too much. Too bad. If this had turned out better, it would have been a great elevation of the western genre.
