Intellectuals with principles and a conscience have it tough under any regime, as father figure Lasica, bound by a chain of mutual favors, discovers. In this role, he essentially trained for his future part as written by Ladislav Pecháček, except here, rather than being dismantled by the system, he’s taken apart by his own naivety in the realm of interpersonal relationships, which he reflects on through sharp self-reflections in his lectures. It’s a shame that somewhere before the drunk tank episode, it turned into a farce, dislocating what had been a fairly well-functioning piece. This, dear friends, is not how it’s done. ()
