Der kleine Pachyrhinosaurus Patchi hat es im Leben nicht leicht: Als kleinster Nachwuchs-Dino, der als letzter aus dem Ei schlüpft, gilt er in seiner Herde von Anfang an als Außenseiter. Den Ton geben die großen, starken Dinos wie Patchis großer Bruder Scowler an, der zum neuen Anführer der Herde werden will. Doch auch Patchi lernt dazu – seine Neugier, sein freundliches Wesen und sein unerschütterlicher Optimismus helfen ihm dabei. Patchi findet Freunde wie den urkomischen Urzeitvogel Alex, er findet mit dem Dino-Weibchen Juniper seine große Liebe – und er findet heraus, dass ausgerechnet er dazu bestimmt ist, zum Helden zu werden und das Überleben seiner Herde ein für alle Mal zu sichern... Walking with Dinosaurs is a film with breathtaking effects on par with Jurassic Park and the BBC documentaries, but the story is prosaic, due to the fact that it is primarily intended for a younger and less demanding audience. Still, I was amused by some of the one-liners, so I can't say it was a complete failure script-wise. This is another film that chose the popular journey of these formidable creatures from A to B, so I especially enjoyed the visuals, which were really top-notch. All in all, an enjoyable and simple diversion that's fine to watch and doesn't require any unnecessary thinking.

Animation and graphics are definitely strong points, but that's about it. The visuals of the BBC documentaries - BBC was also involved in this film - seemed much more visually appealing and, above all, more mature. Their informative function was very well-executed. In this case, that's fine, but the story is terribly cliché and even the dinosaurs themselves can't save it.
