Das junge Waisenmädchen Sheeta wird eines nachts von Regierungsagenten auf ein Luftschiff entführt. Als die Piratin Dora das Schiff angreift, stürzt das Mädchen in die Tiefe. Mithilfe eines Amuletts ihrer Mutter landet sie in den Armen des jungen Pazu. Der träumt von der Festung einer vergangenen Hochkultur, einem Schloss im Himmel - Laputa.
