Egyszer élünk

Balogh, the railway man is hit by the train. In his village he is reported dead, but unexpectedly he comes home, an invalid, yet radiant with life. His family has fallen apart, only his little son has been longing for him. He tries to find a job, but in vain, and at last, accompanied by his son, he starts begging: singing to his accordion he goes down the gangways of the train cars. He learns that by indulging in all kinds of lies they can earn more. One of his daughters goes to town to become a prostitute, the younger one falls victim to her longing for love, his half-witted elder son sets out to roam the world on a stolen horse, while his epileptic wife runs half-mad searching for the silver coin stolen from her neck. Confronted with his father's frailty and dejectedness, his little son mercilessly kicks him off the train. (Budapest Film)
