Zsolt Pék, the well-known writer, inaugurates the monument of Csocsó, that is, Gusztáv Csomai, the unwavering humanist, in his native town. His childhood is recalled, along with the May 1 celebration of 1952: one which is on the verge of becoming a failure, because Csocsó once again is in a "reform" camp due to a harmless, yet prohibited little song. It is only Csocsó who is able to organise the celebration, and, moreover, to bring back the party secretary's father-in-law, who always runs back home to his village, as well as to deal with „gold-footed" Veréb. Left with no alternative, Gubinyi, the state security man, provides for Csocsó's being brought home, the celebration takes place, but Veréb elopes with Gubinyi's wife. Veréb stops Gubinyi from committing suicide, as a „reward" for which he is once more sent to a „reform" camp. (Budapest Film)
