Even as a young man, Steve Martin was able to steal the entire film purely for himself, to entertain the people around him with his humor. For example, I was fascinated by the first scene, where I looked at him as a gangster who laboriously marks meat discounts so that he could buy it cheaply. It made sense to me, and I quite liked it. Subsequently, the film’s funniness dropped in certain sequences only to raise the game later. So I give it a solid average. ()
