1949 an der peruanischen Küste in Caboblanco: Hier hat sich der Amerikaner Giff Hoyt nach Kriegsende niedergelassen und eine Bar eröffnet. Eines Tages kommt die junge Französin Marie Allesandri in das verschlafene Nest an der Küste Perus. Sie sucht Ihren verschollenen Geliebten, dessen Schiff in Kriegstagen vor der Küste sank – aber sie sucht auch nach dem Nazi-Gold im Wert von über 20 Millionen US-Dollar, das sich an Bord des Schiffes befand. Auch andere jagen nach dem kostbaren Wrack: der britische Geheimdienst ebenso wie der flüchtige Ex-Nazi Gunther Beckdorff, der mit Hilfe des lokalen Polizei Chefs Captain Terredo, skrupellos sein Ziel verfolgt.
