The Safety of Objects

The attempt to approach American beauty is evident (perhaps sometimes unnecessary). Life certainties, however, are more bizarre, simpler, and, above all, sadder. From the actors, I would highlight Josh Jackson, for whom I have a general weakness, and also Timothy Olyphant, who squeezed out absolute maximum from his role. (28.08.2006)

An interesting collage of the life stories of four middle-class families from the suburbs of an American city. The highlight is the excellent cast with full-blooded performances, and especially Patricia Clarkson and Glenn Close deserve absolute recognition. These female characters are better written, and you can tell there's a woman's touch in the direction. At first, it was a bit difficult to decipher the abundance of characters and assign them to the right family, and one's orientation is also hindered by quick editing, which alternates between the characters and the setting, sometimes somewhat arbitrarily. The number of psychological problems and life mishaps of the characters is also a problem, as there is a certain purposefulness in the screenplay. On the other hand, several scenes and micro-stories have psychological power and reflect the crisis of the American middle-class today. Overall impression: 75%. (11.08.2009)
