Zoë Bell (Django Unchained, The Hateful 8), die sich als Stuntwoman in Quentin Tarantinos größten Erfolgen (Kill Bill: Vol. 1+2, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds) einen Namen machte, brilliert mit einer virtuosen Action-Performance. Die Kriegsfotografin Avery Taggert (Zoë Bell) hat sich durch ihre schonungslos ehrlichen Bilder einen guten Ruf erarbeitet. Als sie mit einer Gruppe von Missionaren im kolumbianischen Dschungel ankommt, die von dem beliebten und charismatischen Spanier, genannt "El Guero" angeführt wird (gespielt vom OSCAR®-nominierten Filmemacher Nacho Vigalondo), wird sie mit einem Konflikt konfrontiert, der brutaler ist, als alles, was sie bisher fotografiert hat. Eines Nachts bannt sie eine furchtbare Gräueltat El Gueros auf Film. Ein Bild mit dem Potential El Guero zu vernichten. Wohlwissend, dass der Psychopath mit allen Mitteln versuchen wird, Foto und Fotografin zu eliminieren, flieht Avery in den unwirtlichen Dschungel. Josh C. Waller did not make me happy at all this time. His previous film, Raze, was a solid brutal ride with a badass Zoe Bell, but Camino is more of a plodding and uninteresting borefest. There are a lot of dead spots, the filming is mediocre, and the fights, though entirely bad, lack the proper brutality. There is also no intense tension at all and overall it comes across as very bland and lackluster. I didn’t like it and it was not entertaining. 40%

Zoë Bell is great, and I'm glad she truly transitioned into a regular actress rather than just a stuntwoman, but this film isn't as good as one would hope. The story is incredibly empty and tries to hide behind a specific filming style, essentially in the tradition of modern slow-burn gritty dramas. Unfortunately, the result is a bit boring. But it does deserve an average rating.
