1999 überraschen Metallica Fans und Kritiker mit zwei Cross-Over-Konzerten: Zusammen mit dem San Francisco Symphony Orchestra präsentieren Metallica ihre Songs in neuen Arrangements. Das Livealbum trägt den Titel "S&M", eigentlich die Abkürzung für "Sadomasochismus". Als Wortspiel gedacht bedeutet es "Symphony and Metallica". Die Idee dazu hat Komponist Michael Kamen, der sich einen Namen als Arrangeur für Cross-Over-Projekte gemacht hat. (3sat)
