Góz Jóska has become a Communist in the "Csillag" (Star) prison in Szeged. In the meantime, Kovács Gábor successfully talks people in Jóska's native village out of joining the German-led Hungarian army. They all hide among the reeds. The Soviet army liberates Szeged, so Jóska can now return. Marika and Jóska both take an active part in reshaping the village, which provokes the anger of the former landowners. Jóska is opposed to every effort made to waste the properties of the village. He successfully keeps both the fish-pond and the sock of grain under control, which makes him the enemy of virtually everyone including the poor peasants. Kovács Gábor finally announces the redistribution of lands. Jóska's plans for the future are, however, different, those of communal agricultural production. (Verleiher-Text)
