Die weiße Wand

Harriet Andersson plays Monika, a divorced woman from the outskirts of Stockholm. Her story begins one morning and ends the very same evening, and over the course of the day Monika finds time to meet her former husband, lovers and friends, go job hunting and eating pastry. The monotony and sterility of the daily humdrum contrasts with the emotional intensity which Björkman and Andersson beautifully hints at beneath Monika’s outer stillness. (Göteborg Film Festival)
