Jenny Cargill and Kevin Qhobosheane both grew up in South Africa. While she enjoyed the privileges of white people, his life was dominated by his black skin and the poverty and inequality set upon him by apartheid. In 1976 riots in the Soweto Township were beaten down brutally by the authorities, a wave of terror followed. That year, Kevin and Jenny both joined the African National Congress. While he left the country to be trained as a guerrilla fighter in Angola, she kept her official job as a newspaper reporter, all the while working as a recruiter for the ANC and undergoing special military training in East Berlin. After working in the clandestine movement for over ten years, Jenny and Kevin both stayed on after the ANC became legal in 1990. But after all that has happened, doubts arise for both of them. Was this really worth it all? The life of an underground fighter is restricted, with little space for personal choices or spontaneity. Is there really any justification for armed resistance?
