Death Sentence - Todesurteil (2007)
Kevin Bacon is a stud and he's good with a shotgun. James Wan once again revels in dark camera filters, and the whole thing is nicely straightforward and devoid of all unnecessary bullshit about morality. A simple but perfectly effective film that offers exactly what is expected of it.
Balls of Fury: Große Krieger - Kleine Bälle (2007)
Nothing to write home about. Christopher Walken is great and half the jokes are really good, but Dan Fogler is annoying from start to finish and the other half of the jokes suck. It could have been much better, but for an hour and a half of unpretentious fun, it's pretty good.
Die letzte Legion (2007)
Bad. The low budget shows more than it should, and the actors all look like they were there by mistake. The director can't compose action scenes, the writers can't write normal dialogue, and the whole thing is too cheap and stupid to even be taken seriously. But the makers of The Last Legion clearly didn't understand that.
Sicko (2007)
A little bit weaker three stars. This time Michael Moore chose a topic that the average Central European is undoubtedly much less interested in than George Bush. Plus, it's not nearly as funny as his previous films, but it's still a decent documentary.
Superbad (2007)
It is not gratuitously vulgar, it is funny as hell and affably sensitive at the end. An excellent script that isn't afraid to go for the absurd at times, but mostly keeps it pretty real and believable. The film has well written and acted characters and it’s generally a terrible pleasure to watch. I'm looking forward to giving this one a second go. Much more entertaining than Knocked Up for me personally.
Die Liebe in mir (2007)
More like 3 and 1/2 stars. For the first hour, Mike Binder kind of stumbles around, making you like characters he doesn't really say anything about. Fortunately, things take a bit of a turn towards the end and the emotions really come out. Don Cheadle and Adam Sandler's performances are flawless, but if the film had a little faster pace and pushed the emotions a little more, it would have definitely been better.
28 Weeks Later (2007)
An incredibly stupid script in which all the members of the army behave like morons. Fortunately, the director saves what he can. But it could have been MUCH better.
Spuren eines Lebens (2007)
I guess I'm too young for movies about old people dying. A HORRIBLY long, predictable and boring film. Decently made and quite well acted, but I don't want to see it a second time.
Operation: Kingdom (2007)
Total satisfaction. Peter Berg serves up an interesting story that looks at the issues of the Western and Arab worlds in a quite clever way. Visually, the film is top notch from the first to the last second, Jamie Foxx is superb, and the final action set-piece is something that makes you want to take cover from bullets. I can't wait to see it again.
Rezept zum Verlieben (2007)
Boring. Totally. I haven't seen the original, so I can't compare, but someone should tell the people behind this film that the main character of a romantic comedy can't be an unlikeable and annoying woman, and that the romantic storyline has to start before the first hour is up. The likeable Aaron Eckhart saves what he can, but unfortunately it's not enough.
