The Boston Strangler (1968)

Englisch The true story of the Boston Strangler, brilliantly portrayed by Tony Curtis. In the 1960s it was fashionable to divide the screen into several parts with a parallel flowing plot (for example Airport) and here we enjoy it to the fullest. It's not a bad thing at all, on the contrary, it gives the film a fresh edge. Seeing, for example, a potential victim in one part of the screen and the killer standing behind the door in the other part is interesting. It’s hard to describe, you must see it. Fans of Jiří Voskovec will also be delighted by his sensibility.

K2 - Das Letzte Abenteuer (1991)

Englisch As long as the climbers are just walking on the plateaus of Tibet, I have no major reservations. But when the going gets tough and the actors feign physical effort at deadly heights, they and the locations are very unconvincing. But it's still a hundred times better than, for example, Vertical Limit's parody of mountaineering.

Der Bär (1988)

Englisch I almost can't believe that this is not a documentary shot with a hidden camera, but a feature film based on a script. The "acting" of the bears is so convincing that not even the trained ones from the Russian circus school could have done it better. And it’s also a beautiful movie. It is also worth mentioning that the animated dreams of the bears are from the work of the Czech animator Břetislav Pojar.

Daylight (1996)

Englisch A failed disaster thriller in which the tons of oppressive clichés are perhaps even worse than the fiery explosion and the deadly threat of drowning. Rob Cohen is an expert at unpretentious entertainment, but while I had at least a moderate amount of fun with The Fast and the Furious and xXx, this film bored me to death. Stallone as a redeeming angel, I just can’t buy it. And Aragorn fans won’t enjoy it much, either, Viggo is not given a lot of space.

Rocky (1976)

Englisch Miracles happen sometimes. The boxer Rocky lasted all rounds undefeated in his fight with the heavyweight champion of the world, and this B-movie, from which nobody expected anything, went for the highest standard and received two major Oscars. And a third miracle on top of that: the until then unknown Sly Stallone received two Oscar nominations, including the script, full of great dialogue, which he wrote in three days. Sly lived the American dream and rose to stardom.

Flucht oder Sieg (1981)

Englisch An underwhelming film set in a WWII POW camp that may only please die-hard football fans and admirers of Pelé. But even they might get bored, and even great actors can't pull it off.

Dr. Seltsam oder wie ich lernte, die Bombe zu lieben (1964)

Englisch A searing satire of military thinking and the threat of nuclear war. I never got to like Peter Sellers much, but here he absolutely grounded me with his triple role. The rodeo on the bomb at the end is the cherry on top of this delicious cake.

Hinter dem Rampenlicht (1979)

Englisch A very personal confession of Bob Fosse, who here prophetically predicted his untimely death. Sod death, life is short and there’s no time to rest because the show must go on. I guess that's how Fosse saw it and Roy Scheider played it superbly.

Fahrenheit 451 (1966)

Englisch Sometimes less is more. Truffaut knew this well, which is why the austere architecture and simple visual effects are not a bad thing; on the contrary, they perfectly illustrate the gloomy atmosphere of a uniformed Orwellian society. The unique atmosphere, Truffaut's inventive direction, and Bradbury's book, when things like this combine, the result will be nothing short of a compelling piece of cinema.

Der englische Patient (1996)

Englisch A clear victory of form over content. Breathtaking shots of the desert, beautiful music by Gabriel Yared and excellent actors. The plot is a bit weak, but you can forgive that in this film, because it is quite a feast for the eyes and ears.
