Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle (2017)

Englisch If there was a bit more action and humor, then maybe this sequel could grow on me. But without it, it’s a classic lousy sequel that has an action-filled beginning, ending, but the two hours in between are just a boring stuffing that the movie could do without. The only upside are the actors who are enjoying these roles to the fullest. What’s more, Elton John’s probably not gonna forget this experience for the rest of his life. After I finished watching, I thought that if the movie was half an hour shorter and some of the scenes got a little more work, it could have been a perfect successor of the first one. For example, I like Mark Strong, but some of the moments were plain horrendous. I don’t want to spoil anything, but a certain scene was so upsetting that were I a professional movie critic I would have gotten up and left. But since I’m not a professional critic, I finished the movie. If you’re expecting a crazy story, you’ll be pleased. But know that there’s less action scenes than you’d expect. Even then, it’s pretty good.

La ciénaga entre el mar y la tierra (2016)

Englisch Any movie with a disabled lead always deserves a huge amount of respect, even more so if the premise is portrayed in such a human, sincere and easy-going way. However, the ending is hell, but it steers that way since the beginning. Anyway, it’s nice that the authors tried to find silver linings in the harsh moments; they even succeeded a few times. A nice human but a dark movie that pleasantly surprised me by being from Colombia. The ending at the sea is a solid emotional heartache for any viewer.

Auf der anderen Seite des Bettes (2008)

Englisch Here in the Czech Republic, we shoot executors at the door, but in France, they invite them to the dinner table and lead passionate discussions. In this movie’s case, the executor then tells them that he enjoys watching people in tense situations and so Sophie Marceau, beautiful as always, and Dany Boon, funny as always, think of swapping their jobs and helping each other by saving a failing marriage, paying off the debts and even adding a few more new thoughts and ideas to their work routines. The idea is excellent, but it’s lacking Francis Veber’s gentle approach. And a whole casting of French actors simply can’t save that by their mediocrity.

Teesklejad (2016)

Englisch I felt like I was watching a bunch of idiots hanging out in an architecturally unique building that was supposed to complete a certain atmosphere with an intelligent touch. I am all the more sorry that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – whose filmmaking I’m very interested in under different circumstances – are responsible for this disaster. A shame.

Dirty War – Schmutziger Krieg (2004) (Fernsehfilm)

Englisch This movie was shot a bit too much like a documentary for my taste. I felt as if I was watching a poorly filmed documentary that attempted convey the situation of a terrorist attack on London very vividly. On the other hand, I have to admit that the movie was far ahead of its time, because what the filmed in 2004 is our daily bread nowadays.

Tin Star (2017) (Serie)

Englisch Canadian nature creates a completely unique atmosphere here, one that I haven’t experienced in any other show. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I expected a standard crime investigation show and after watching 10 episodes of season one, I could describe this show in any words except for crime investigation. Tim Roth is playing an incredibly strange and enchanting character who will definitely not sit well with you and will surely feel very strange. Especially when the demon of alcoholism wakes up within him. On the other hand, this is the originality of the series itself, creating a unique story of the supposed new sheriff of this Canadian town. I wasn’t the only one who was deceived, it was the entire police station, too. They were expecting a new boss and they got a man whose past is likely to haunt us for years to come. I definitely liked it a lot. Some of the scenes were so enchanting that I couldn't even breathe. At the end of the first season, I thought that the creators were really exaggerating with the drama, but the final scene still managed to do it and I can't wait for the second season. So, let's be surprised. One thing is clear, however. Tin Star is not and will never be a classic crime investigation show. On the contrary, expect a unique drama from Canadian nature that will keep you awake and draw you into the world of local bikers and natives from the Cheyenne tribe, who complete the atmosphere of this unique Canadian world together. And Tim Roth puts it all together perfectly.

Winter (2015)

Englisch Booze, sadness, a bearded guy, and it's cold. An exemplary English depression from a proper British environment. A perfect small-scale movie.

Der Bulle von Tölz - Tod am Altar (1996) (Folge)

Englisch It would be unlike this show not to make fun of cults right off the bat; there’s a good cult in this very episode. It’s called the House of the Sun and every time that these two minions of the Lord of the Sun appear on the screen, a strange alien music plays in the background, which is probably there to assure us – the audience – that this episode is going to be more psychedelic than investigative. But Benno doesn’t get intimidated and neither does his mother. At first, like she always does, she walks in on the priest’s death which turns out to be a shocking murder. Unexpectedly. Then she rescues a single mother with a child and shelters them at her inn. Benno with Sabrina are investigating as if their lives depended on it and they mock the Church a little bit. Another good character is the Prelate, who is gradually starting to reveal the cards, but careful – he is the biggest player of the entire show. The ending is about bribes once again and the Church gets a little involved, too. Benno doesn’t spare anyone, but his investigations are relaxing to watch.

Es (2017)

Englisch These childhood adventures with a touch of the 1980s started with Super 8 a few years ago, but it hasn’t fully taken off until the Stranger Things came out in 2016. It took a year for It to use this vibe exemplarily. They really took the advantage of it in its full glory, because from what I read, it will probably become the most commercially successful American horror movie ever. At the same time, I personally wouldn’t even call it a horror movie. Well, the beginning is a bit brutal, but the rest is a completely classic children's summer adventure and they nailed the casting down perfectly to the last detail. In fact, the group reminded me a lot of the gang in Stranger Things. One of them is a girl with a boyish cut, one is nerdy, one is chatty, one is black, and so on. On the other hand, I didn’t mind that the creators took this proven idea and introduced it to the movie It; on the contrary. But I was a little annoyed that a number of jump-scares were a bit too artificial and forced. However, after I finished watching, I assessed that it wasn’t actually a horror, but a children’s adventure and I really enjoyed it as such.

Der Bulle von Tölz - Unter Freunden (1996) (Folge)

Englisch In this episode, we find out just how well Benno can deal with the Revenue service. Right off the bat, his mom gets a notice about owing 40,000 marks in taxes over the last year. But the issue is that she only had a turnover of 15,000 at the inn. So, it’s probably the Revenue service’s fault and the following murder confirms how awfully unorganized they are. Benno doesn’t give a damn about the debt though and lets his mom – who gets a 1,000 mark notice every day – worry on her own. He’s a policeman through and through so the only thing on his mind is the fact that an influential businessman and his old friend invited him to the most expensive restaurant in town and also gave him an olive oil pressed from a prime selection of drupes. In this episode is plentiful in bribes and it’s a lot of fun. You can also expect an amusing plot twist and an equally interesting unravelling. This was one of the best episodes.
