Abarenbó mama (2007) (Serie)

Englisch At the very least, you learn a few things here about how it is in Japan with preschool education. In my opinion, the cast was chosen very well, it was interesting to watch them play together as I know them from other series/movies where they played quite different characters (well, except for Tomosaka Rie, I've seen her in a similar role before). But it was a bit too whiny for my taste, and some episodes had too many scenes that bored and I didn't want to watch them. On the other hand, there were moments that I truly enjoyed. The series has a way of cracking you up as well as moving you – and it's nothing violent. In fact, it's a family affair, where you gather around the table and eat dinner while watching the fortunes of Avarenbow Mama unfold. A better 3 stars.

Abenobaši mahó šótengai (2002) (Serie)

Englisch It took me quite a long time to make it through the first three episodes... maybe a month. Because I wasn't enjoying it, I was bored of it. But finally I had some time and I don't know, somehow I didn't want to leave it unfinished, so I sat down and watched it until the end. I started to like it a bit more than before, yet I was bored at times and hoping for the next episode. The best episode would be the one where we get to Hollywood, I enjoyed naming the movies that were mentioned here... :oD But it's definitely a shame that it didn't stay with the conviction: "That’s just how reality is, it can't be changed, it can't be hidden behind imagination and dreams, so accept it." Which is a great pity for the rating, because if it had stayed that way, I would have given it one star more. Btw: the most beautiful ending I've had the pleasure of encountering. Let's see if there's one that surpasses it :-)

Abenteuer in Rio (1964)

Englisch What I liked about it was the occasionally somewhat abbreviated dubbing (at least I thought it was); it created some comical situations. On the other hand, I found Miss Fiancée annoying, which kind of ruined my experience of the whole film. Her character annoyed the hell out of me. And Belmondo wasn't dubbed by the Czech actor Jiří Krampol :-( But otherwise a pretty decent sixties film with a still youthful Bel. ^^

Ace Attorney (2012)

Englisch It's a very long movie, really long. But somehow there weren't too many moments where I was really bored, where I had to look around to see what was flying where. Granted, there were a few weaker moments that the movie could have done without, but thankfully they weren't dragged out in any way. It's not a film where the plot was mysterious, the viewer had no idea whodunit until the last moment. It's as transparent as a window after spring cleaning. Only it doesn't really matter, because it's set in a very interesting environment where everyone wears ridiculous costumes, where even their gestures are exaggerated, as if they've just jumped out of a play. This makes more out of a story that is otherwise pretty basic, and grossly inadequate for such a long running time. The music wasn't bad, but in the end only the last song stuck in my mind. It's not a bad film, it even leaves you smiling at the end, you learn to say "objection" in Japanese. A weak script, good acting, great setting. Absolutely don't want to do much thinking, but still value your IQ enough to watch Czech TV series Ordinace v růžové zahradě? Try this movie. P.S.: Was it my imagination, or was Detective Itonokogiri really an homage to Aoshima? Same coat and some of the poses...

A Chinese Tall Story ( (2005)

Englisch Hard to define, hard to swallow for some, but I got carried away by the "imbecility" and had a pretty good time with it. I saw similarities to The Matrix, The Wolverine, and Spiderman, but why not, that could hardly hurt this movie ;) I'll probably go watch this stupidity again to see if I missed any homages to other movies... XoD Basically – I enjoyed it much more than Nim’s Island, which I saw before this.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby (2019)

Englisch Apparently there's a script problem with this series. Karen wasn't in the 2nd episode and it immediately got an extra star! This episode, however, is so stupid and the characters are so interchangeable that maybe even a star is too much. What did I like about this episode? Probably nothing. But it wasn't a total disaster. Maybe. We can hope. I think. Bleh.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (2018)

Englisch This is so stupid I have to watch the third episode. The corruption in giving away state money, the hacking of the state archives, the journalism, Sahid... it's all just so stupid it hurts. It's just... I think as time goes on, as I watch more and more of this Christmas TV garbage, I get more and more into it. :-D Otherwise, I'd give it one less star.

Afro-ken (2001)

Englisch Even though we do a nice study of Afro-ken – find out what he's like, what his genealogy is – and even though he was definitely made by a guy who was on something (though it may not seem like it from the interviews in the piece, I'm firmly convinced of it, and I'm also firmly convinced that if I took just half a shot of the same shit the author did, I'd be high for life), I have to admit that the best part of the whole anime was the song. Catchy, catchy, just a hit. :-D Plus the English was understandable (but who knows, maybe an English native worked on it...). It's just that, despite the psychedelia, the softness, and the color, it's really a boring story about a strange Afro-ken and his ilk. And when I say boring, I mean really boring. It was boring even though I watched it after studying vocabulary and grammar. In other words, extremely boring. But the song is really good, just enough for that one star. It's at the beginning, so turn it on and then you can turn it off with no regrets.

After the Ball (2015)

Englisch Basically the same as every Cinderella story, even the division of people into good and bad was like a fairytale. In the end the good guys were pleased and the bad guys were punished. The only plus of this movie is Kate dressing up as Nate, the voice and gesticulations were perfect. But other than that, the performances... no one's working too hard here. I put it in the category of those Disney-type movies like Cinderella again. It was really lacking sparkle; if it had been paced nicely, I'd add a star. If you want something to fall sleep to, this is perfect because you won't have a compulsive need to know what's going to happen next, nor will you get any wake-up calls.

Agatha Christies Poirot - Mord im Orient-Express (2010) (Folge)

Englisch Poirot can be seen here as a broken man. A MAN. His grey brain cells still work, but that unshakable faith of his with which he judges all criminals has been shattered, which is why this treatment is the best of all for me, not to mention that it surpasses even the book. Very successful, not to mention a perfect plot and an excellent climax. And of course great performances, because without them it would have been half-hearted. Even though I know Murder on the Orient Express like the back of my hand, I watched it slowly with the feeling that I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen – I just genuinely enjoyed it.
