Tim Burton's Corpse Bride - Hochzeit mit einer Leiche (2005)

Englisch From a formal standpoint, one of the best animated films of the decade. Excellent artistic design and meticulous animation. This time, it's not about finding new paths but a return to storytelling classics. Given the precise form, my overall impression is 90%.

Post Coitum (2004) booo!

Englisch Given his previous accomplishments, Juraj Jakubisko doesn't need to fear hell for directing this atrocity, but he definitely deserves purgatory. Such an experienced director should recognize a bad script when he sees one. But even the execution is rushed. Stupid dialogues, zero plot. Brr! Overall impression: 5%.

Haus aus Sand und Nebel (2003)

Englisch This is exactly the genre that Europeans know how to make better... The film was interesting to me as a psychological drama, a conflict between two completely different personalities (either by nature or by value scale), and unfortunately in the second half, it approached (especially when it came to shooting and the character of the young policeman) the methods of typical American crime thrillers. Connelly is certainly a good actress, but I couldn't shake the feeling that she had just stepped off the set from a different studio – she simply didn't fit the role of a cleaning lady for me... On the other hand, Ben Kingsley and his whole Persian family were convincing. If Vadim Perelman was trying to present Nicol even partially as a victim of the system, it didn't work for me. She was only a victim of her own carelessness, and I couldn't identify with her as a protagonist in any way. Overall impression: 60%.

Timewatch: Inside the Mind of Adolf Hitler (2005) (Fernsehfilm)

Englisch An interesting topic handled in a sober manner and with an appropriate film length. On the other hand, it would be worthwhile to contrast today's methods of political profiling with its humble beginnings. As it stands, it’s just a brief journey into history.

L.A. Law (1986) (Serie)

Englisch This group of Los Angeles lawyers may not be as quirky as the firm where Ally McBeal works, but that doesn't mean I was bored. Quite the opposite... A certain sobriety adds to the authenticity. American law is an exceedingly peculiar thing and offers countless script possibilities. In its genre, considering the acting performances and the quality of the script, it is significantly above average. I believed in the characters' stances and conflicts. Overall impression: 85%.

Fawlty Towers (1975) (Serie)

Englisch John Cleese is one of my favorite actors, and Fawlty Towers is a legend in British television comedy, often regarded by the British as the best sitcom of all time. So, I had no doubt that I would enjoy a few pleasant evenings with this series, but the opposite was true. With each episode, my rating dropped, and if I had seen them all, I'd probably give it two stars. The problem is Cleese's overacting and the overall excessiveness. Many jokes have great potential, but they are exaggerated to the point of awkwardness. Sometimes a hint is enough... The conversational humor style of Yes, Minister would suit the series much better. Overall impression: 50%.

Der dritte Mann (1949)

Englisch I've heard that British fans consider this the best film of all time. For its era, it was certainly an exceptional film, but spreading such statements among today's consumers of commercial hits would likely garner some ridicule, as time in the film industry moves quickly, and the nearly 60 years certainly show. In the late 1940s, the extensive use of exteriors and the bleak ruins of bombed-out Vienna were revolutionary and now give this thriller almost the dimension of a war documentary. Excellent performance by Orson Welles, with noteworthy cinematography and lighting, and several excellent scenes such as the wild chase across the city that surprisingly ends at a literary lecture. On the other hand, there is uneven pacing and drawn-out scenes (especially the final quarter-hour in the sewer system). Overall impression: 80%.

Ich bin die Barbie (2003) (Fernsehfilm)

Englisch From a production standpoint, it's a subpar piece, but the topic is interesting - a Barbie doll as a role model for insecure women who aspire to success. You won't learn anything significant or expand your mental horizons, but many of us will feel, after watching it, that there are even bigger fools in the world... Overall impression: 45%.

Der Pakt mit dem Teufel (1950)

Englisch The film appeared on TV several times in the 80s as a representative of old French cinema, and each time it was a cinematic event for me. This Faustian comedy simply has flair and elegance. René Clair added briskness and witty dialogues. Michel Simon was the perfect, charismatic devil, and Gérard Philipe was an incredibly likable Faust, so I always forgave them even the happy ending... Overall impression: 80%.

Nigel Marven Nature Specials (2002) (Serie)

Englisch The four-part nature series uses elements more suitable for commercial television, with commentary like, "This little critter almost took Nick's hand off," followed by a camera zoom on the toothed maw of a shark pup. Nonetheless, it undoubtedly maintains a certain level and is not lacking in information. Nigel Marven is a good narrator, and the footage is professional. Overall impression: 55%.
