Bed of the Dead (2016)

Englisch Quite an anticipated thing by the trailers, but it unfortunately does not live up to the expectations despite an interesting idea. The idea of a bed that kills every time someone lies in it is pretty cool, but the way they conceived it makes it sound very uninteresting. I was secretly hoping to get a mix of Mirrors and Freddy, but in the end I got a 90s B-movie concoction that I'll forget about tomorrow. The detective storyline is uninteresting, the gore is bland, the effects, while practical, are sadly lackluster, and the actors are all unlikeable. 50%

Wolves at the Door (2016)

Englisch A very mediocre affair with not much to impress. The very short running time is a nice touch, but even so, nothing spectacular happens in 40 minutes. The gore is missing, the tension somehow works and the execution is not bad. 55%

The Game Changer (2017)

Englisch I totally missed this one and out of nowhere an action gem from China appeared, showcasing the best of what has come out of Asia so far this year. From the opening minutes the film delivers an incredible action inferno accompanied by impressive cinematography, stunning visuals, stylish slow motion, plenty of blood and spectacular shootouts and fights. After 40 minutes, the film stagnates a bit and takes a break from the action, i.e. focuses more on the story, which is also interesting since the film is set in an older era, one could say that it is a gangster movie which is unusually refreshing for the action genre. It's gritty, stylish, old-school and at times so nicely over the top that I was pleased. Decent stuff that is very uncompromising in terms of characters. The protagonist is a bad-ass bastard at the end. 80%.

Der kommer en dag (2016)

Englisch At first, I wasn't too interested in this film, but from the opening minutes it draws you in, grabs you by the heart and makes you rage at the hideously unjust system that existed at the time. The two young leads are excellent, Lars Mikkelsen as the insidious sleazy bastard of the institution is played convincingly, but you also harbour a great deal of hatred for the rest of the educators from the start, except for the female teacher, who is the only one with any compassion. A very harsh and unpleasant spectacle in places. I do not envy the children. A great and powerful affair. 90%

Plötzlich Papa (2016)

Englisch Definitely one of the best, most intense and powerful films of the year. Omar Sy has another excellent role after The Intouchables and proves that he is one of the funniest black actors ever. Hugo Gélin has written another role tailor-made for him and this time instead of an immobile senior citizen he is in charge of a little girl, which is closer to my personal taste and the whole film had a huge impact on me. Omar has given up his life to give his daughter his all, a dream come true for every child and I think we can all agree that everyone would want a father like him. There is no shortage of funny moments, suspenseful moments, movie set moments, and poignant scenes that, especially in the final minutes, mine emotion so strongly that my eyes are still stinging two hours after it's over. I haven't screamed so hard at anything and yet it is not an emotional wipeout. An incredible film and France in full force again. 100%.

Planeta Singli (2016)

Englisch A pleasant comedy, something the Poles have nothing to be ashamed of. The performances are impressive, especially Agnieszka Więdłocha and Maciej Stuhr are flawless, funny situations are abundant, it is a kind of to Czech comedies. I had a good time. I recommend it. 80%.

Der Duellist (2016)

Englisch The Russians are undoubtedly improving, and this year in particular you can see it. Not only are they choosing interesting projects. The recent Viking is not only visually arresting, but it's also a theme that comes out once every five years, and The Duelist is also a very original genre piece that's nowhere else to be seen. The period atmosphere is awesome, the visuals are top notch and the duels have a lot of pizzazz. I liked the protagonist and the villain and although there were a few deaf passages the occasional brutality doesn't let me go below 4*. 75%!

Personal Shopper (2016)

Englisch Quite an interesting psychological drama that only slightly skirts around thriller. Kristen Stewart hasn't had a chance to really impress with any project so far, so here she shows her tits at least twice and hopes someone up there notices her. The scenes with the text messages were interesting, otherwise there's nothing interesting to see here. It's quite a mystery to me what the local nerds are up to. 55%.

Fabricated City (2017)

Englisch After a great trailer, it's actually a pretty big disappointment that only got 10% out of a great potential. If the whole film had been set in the imagination of a hero playing an action game, it could have been excellent and I could even have survived the following prison, because here it was solid, but from the 40th minute onwards the film becomes a simple crime drama with nothing to impress. The actors are unknown, the visuals are mediocre for Korea, there is little action and the following minutes I didn't really care anymore. 55%

Savage Dog (2017)

Englisch Weak. I'm getting tired of these B-movies with Scott Adkins. It's very cheap, tired and at times quite boring. The action is very mediocre, with poor sound design and lacking in intensity. The only pleasing thing is that it is about R-rated and the scene in the pub and the final fight of Marko Zaror vs Adkins are the only interesting things the film offered. 40%
