Hitch – Der Date Doktor (2005)

Englisch Funny I missed this until now. A decent idea for a RomCom, a terrific Will Smith, and a seductively uncompromising Eva Mendes pull the film into the above average range. I also liked Kevin James as an absolute dork. I had a very enjoyable time. 75%.

The Wandering Earth (2019)

Englisch Jacky Wu certainly has a knack for finding financially successful projects. After Wolf Warrior 2, he chose another successful box office hit, but the quality of the film itself isn't worth much this time. China decided to make their first big sci-fi flick, combining Gravity with 2012, and it's an unexpectedly unentertaining mess with quite capable CGI, but weak in terms of action and story-wise it doesn't really stand out either; it’s more like a rip-off of older more well-known sci-fi. 50%

Poveri ma Ricchi (2016)

Englisch An excellent Italian comedy that benefits from an idea that is almost made for the comedy genre. A socially deprived family living in the middle of nowhere wins 100 million euros in the lottery and has to keep the winnings a secret from all the locals because everyone in the village wants a share. A well chosen family, solid gags, great pacing, about five long bouts of laughter and scenes you'll want to play for everyone you know. Seen it three times already and a hit every time. The scene in the restaurant is a comedic gem! 90%

Pitbull. Nowe porządki (2016)

Englisch Patryk Vega is a director from whom the Czechs could learn. The Poles rock and have made a brutally raw gangster film that is reminiscent of France or Italy in its style of filmmaking. Piotr Stramowski as the main character is great and Bogusław Linda as the villain is also good. The nice women who aren't afraid of nudity and the decent portion of violence are also welcome. 80%.

Die anonymen Romantiker (2010)

Englisch A solid romantic comedy about two shy people set in a chocolate factory. Benoît Poelvoorde was perfect again and the role was tailor-made for him (the restaurant scene is the best). A must for fans of France. 80%.

Nichts zu verzollen (2010)

Englisch A great French comedy with an original idea about closing the border, which doesn't suit the customs officers because they will lose their jobs. Starring the absolutely excellent racist and strongly patriotic Benoit Poelvoorde, who shows his comedic talents, and Dany Boon, who is more of a typical dork. The film is very enlightening as to the differences between France and Belgium and I had no idea that there was so much intolerance there. Funny, informative and well acted. 85%.

Der Hundertjährige, der aus dem Fenster stieg und verschwand (2013)

Englisch The Scandinavians are hot right now. An excellent road movie with heart. It has a very original premise, lots of dark humour, an unexpectedly high body count and nice historical elements with lots of well-known personalities. This is great. 80%.

Nordvest - Der Nordwesten (2013)

Englisch Michael Noer serves up typically stark, cold and unflinching filmmaking from the North, and the film is most reminiscent of Refn's Dealer. Copenhagen's underworld is close to London's, and the film's unpleasant atmosphere breathes from every corner. Roland Møller as the prototypical bastard is again excellent and Gustav Dyekjær Giese also gives a very decent performance. I love these films, so I'm very satisfied. 85%.

8 Mile (2002)

Englisch Another long overdue film and I am very satisfied. The harsh setting of Detroit is portrayed believably, Eminem is cool and the only thing that disappointed me is that there weren't more Rap battles. Anyway, the finale is awesome. Anthony Mackie showed that he can handle the role of antagonist. 80%

Operation Walküre - Das Stauffenberg Attentat (2008)

Englisch I avoided the film for a long time, but in the end it is a solid suspenseful spy-war film about the overthrow of Hitler. Tom Cruise is excellent in the lead role and even though I couldn't get into the film for the first half hour, once Operation Valkyrie started I didn't even flinch.
