Jurassic Park (1993)

Englisch Perhaps this is now a classic of adventure movie making, excellent by the standards of the time, and I do not believe anyone on this web has never heard of this movie. Brilliant.

Das Schweigen der Lämmer (1991)

Englisch This is a true cult movie nowadays. Well, no shit, Sherlock – if we had to pick the best Hannibal of them all, it would be the one played here by Hopkins.

Scary Movie 4 (2006)

Englisch If half of the jokes in a movie are based on just banging your head with all sorts of different objects, there is something wrong.

Die Geheimnisse der Spiderwicks (2008)

Englisch This is a cute, adventurous, and likable movie with two young actors who give good performances, and an average story. Visually, the movie is really great (I was very pleasantly surprised at it considering it was made on a low budget) and the acting is also great (Freddie Highmore is impeccable in his dual role, Sarah Bolger is great opposite him), the rest is merely just-OK. In short, it is a solid enough movie worth watching once, that neither offends nor delights.

Mord im Pfarrhaus (2005)

Englisch This is an excellent comedy full of dark humor, outstanding actors, and an excellent plot. This is a movie that is really close to my heart and that I have a terrible fondness for, so much so that I am able to quote certain dialogues from memory, like the one with the broccoli. :)

Twilight - Biss zum Morgengrauen (2008)

Englisch I went to see Twilight  for one simple reason: I wanted to see what was so breathtaking and captivating about it. Twilight is neither of those things, of course, however, it is an interesting movie either way, and everyone should go see it to make up their mind about whether it is just a load of kitschy teenage crap or a romantic adult movie. Now for the review: as far as the actors go – the movie has a mostly average cast. Even if there are some excellent actors, they are accompanied by clumsy and wooden actors. An example of this would be Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, the co-stars in the lead roles. Kristen is relaxed throughout the movie, playing Bella as if she is just being herself in certain situations, while until halfway through the movie Pattinson is just smirking at Kristen, scowling, frowning, and comes off rather constrained. Of the better ones, we should also mention Rachelle Lefevre and Cam Gigandet, who as the villains of the movie, manage to create the right atmosphere. The bedraggled Gigandet thus gives the repulsive impression he is obviously supposed to give, and Lefevre, on the other hand, looks like a temptress, and an unbearable bitch who is constantly secretly plotting evil things. That would be the actors, and now onto the screenplay: to sum up, this is a slightly above average movie. In the end, Hardwicke relies heavily on some poignant scenes, and also fast-paced action scenes, however, the transitioning between these two things is almost tedious in places. The coquettish, flirtatious interactions and other stuff that goes on at school will fill your nostrils like a stench that no amount of air freshener can eliminate. The soundtrack is also above average – admittedly, Danny Elfman and Harry Gregson-Williams might have very well laughed their heads off at this gig and turned it down, however, it is pleasing that the OST does not feel monotonous and covers a variety of genres.

Pokémon - Die TV-Serie: Sonne & Mond - Ultra-Legenden (1997) (Serie)

Englisch Come on, let us all be honest now... who did not watch this as a kid back in the day? While I am, of course, going to rave about how cheesy it is nowadays, I still just cannot deny it three stars out of nostalgia :))

Die Simpsons (1989) (Serie)

Englisch This is yet another cult TV show that goes completely over my head. Granted, I have never seen more than like ten episodes in my short sorry life, however, I would not think that watching some more episodes could change that. The vast majority of long-running TV shows that consist of stand-alone episodes just go over my head, and The Simpsons is no exception. I can understand why others enjoy it so much, it is clear to me that some people could not imagine life without it, however, I have just never been impressed. Sure, every episode has at least one funny thing about it, or there is an allusion to something topical, however, I really could not find something that grabbed me and got me more into the show. It is a shame.

Ice Age: Keine Zeit für Nüsse (2006)

Englisch This is a load of awesome wackiness. Scrat is back in action, but with a time machine? An awesome five-minute romp for all Ice Age movie enthusiasts.

Matrix (1999)

Englisch This is the "daddy" of contemporary science fiction action movies. If you are a fan of science fiction and have not yet seen it, you have not lived. The stunts and effects were breathtaking for the time it was made, the actors were excellent – and the plot? Unprecedented and original. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the pacing of the movie – while Morpheus offloads a bunch of information about the Matrix onto you, and you do not know what he is going on about, however, you soon realize it all makes sense after watching the scenes that follow. However, the important thing is that by the end, all the information makes perfect sense and you can understand how complicated and treacherous the world of the Matrix is. A job well done by the Wachowskis. It is just a real shame that the sequels were not more evenly matched.
