Maria Blom was born in 1971. After studying theatre and drama at Södra Latin, she became successful as a writer and director of stage plays. By the time she began work on her feature debut DALECARLIANS, Maria had more than ten years of experience from the theatre with such works as SÅRSKORPOR and RABARBERS. DALECARLIANS was a huge critical and popular success. The movie was seen by 800 000 cinema-goers (about 10% of the Swedish population) and was bought by a large number of international distributors. It received Sweden's most coveted award i.e. Sweden's equivalent for the Oscars: Guldbaggen, for Best Film of the Year, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress.
