Biografie

He was from the first class of filmstudents of the Danish Filmschool (1968) and has since then worked extensively in Film and Television – creatively, filmpolitically and as highly appreciated tutor and teacher. In 1971 his first film " The Missing Clark" – an adaption of a novel by renowned danish author Hans Scherfig – was a big box office hit, and got nominated for a Golden Bear Award in Berlin as well as won The Danish Bodil-Awards as best film and best male actor in a leading role. From 1973-75 he worked in the Danish Filminstitute as a filmconsultant. His next feature was the political drama "Terror" released in 1977 followed by "Little Virgil and Orla the Frogsnatcher" in 1980 .... In the same periode he directed several films for TV and worked also as an editor of programmes.

From 1992-1998 he took up teaching at the Danish Filmschool where he was head of the directors section where he introduced filmtraining for theateractors. A programme that now has become a part of the education of actors in Denmark. Gert Fredholm has also directed short films as well as undertaken the management of Unesco's Filmtraining Project in Zimbabwe. In 2001 he returned as a director with "One Hand Clapping" – critically acclaimed and good boxoffice for a warm and human comedy. The film won two Bodil Awards for best male actor in a leading role and for best female supporting actress.
