Vuotos is an ice-age delta located in the municipalities of Pelkosenniemi, Salla and Savukoski in Finnish Lapland. The valley covers an area of ten kilometres in the confluence of big rivers. It is an area suitable for a reservoir. In 1993 and 1994, Seppo Keränen and Pertti Kalinainen spent 150 days in the area of Vuotos. The result was a beautiful and impressive film with the scenery, the light, a peregrine falcon,a swan, a crane, a smew, a reindeer… and man in the starring roles.
The Swan Song is not one of the common breed of nature films just wondering at animal behaviour. For the film´s creators, Vuotos is an area in which the traditional dwellers, both animals and men, lead a life style true to nature. What is unnatural is the violence with which man tries to control that nature.
