Two parallel stories about characters trapped in illogical endless spaces: two brothers and a detective locked on an infinite staircase, and a family locked on an infinite road - for a very long time. This Mexican sci-fi thriller follows two separate narrative strands: in the first, a detective hunts down two brothers, killing one. In the other, a family heads off on a trip and the young daughter suffers an asthma attack on the road. In both cases the characters hear an explosion, and thenceforth find themselves trapped in their respective environments: the detective runs down to the ground floor only to find himself on the ninth floor again; the family drive on an infinite road, never reaching their destination. Even elements within the environments recur each day, such as ready meals and soft drinks. This deeply disturbing film touches upon themes such as consumerism, family bonds and parallel universes, and makes us question how different our lives really are to the lives of these people, bound to the same places and daily routines. Englisch I like when some other country than USA or Great Britain tries to film sci-fi. Most of the time, I’ve met with original and minimalistic ideas that benefit from the low budget and try to get the most out of it. Here, it’s the mere idea of a spatial loop that left me wondering how it’s all going to end. Plus, the technical aspects were also absolutely perfect; it depended on the ending, but I must say that it wasn’t disappointing. Unlike Cube that also came up with a great idea, but the creators have put a stop to it the moment that they should explain something, and so they didn’t explain anything at all. That’s why I really appreciated this ending. With movies like this, the hardest thing isn’t coming up with a premise; it’s the ending. It might not have explained it 100%, but it at least tried to. Englisch An awesome mindfuck from Mexico that will literally blow your brains out! Two parallel storylines about characters stuck in an endless time loop for a hell of a long time and forced to adapt to their new lives. In the first storyline we follow two brothers and a detective who are stuck in an endless and never ending staircase. In the second we have a family stuck on an endless road, and even though there wasn’t much of a budget to speak of, the script is very impressive, the characters are bizarre, some scenes are kinky (the sex between two old people was uncomfortable to watch) and the final twist is literally disarming and unexpected. I unexpectedly enjoyed this Mexican puzzle and anyone who likes time loops shouldn't even hesitate. An older film that didn't get as much attention as it deserved. Story****, Action>No, Humor>No, Violence**, Entertainment****, Music***, Visuals***, Atmosphere****, Suspense****. 7.5/10. ()
