This almost instructional film on frugality combines, in a clearly identifiable manner, acted scenes with documentary footage and animation. Mony a Pickle encourages the viewer to deposit his money on a bank account of the state-owned Post Office Savings Bank. In the period just before the Second World War, the film thus offers a distinctive look at a society that has just recently recovered from the Great Depression. By focusing on material security, it offers an unsentimental though romantic view of what the British can aff ord to buy, and their plans and desires.
