Once upon a time, there was a small village in the heart of Transylvania named Adorian. There were no tractors, no running water and only one phone. The inhabitants of Adorian belong to the biggest minority living in Romania: Hungarians. They are commonly called boszgor (homeless) by the Romanians and they have been treated as second-class citizens for decades. Thus, they have learned to vehemently defend their cultural identity. To refuse modernity is one way of protecting their cultural heritage. Whereas their “home country” Hungary is close to becoming member of the European Union, Europe seems light years away to Adorian inhabitants. In this very modest and archaic world, there was a peasant and poet, Jozsi, who wrote more than 300 poems to convey his thoughts about the past. For him, they are testimonies for future generations, a chronicle of his time. Igazgyöngyök – a loving documentary fairytale about the simple life of Adorian’s inhabitants. (DOK.fest München)
