2000. Goldrush in the Wild East. The European hinterland of Romania. Third world. A catastrophe in the beginning of February – more than 1.000 tons of fish, poisoned with cyanogen are floating on the river Theiß though the Eastern Hungarian lowland plain towards the Danube … What happened before: the dam of a mine in Romania´s Bania Mare burst after continual rainfalls. More than 100.000 cube metres of cyanogen mud emerged. Via Theiß river the poison was transported to Hungary. The persons in charge of the Australian-Romanian mine refused to accept any responsibility. The Hungarians are confronted with the facts, helplessly. For a brief period, the West reacts with concern and apocalyptic pictures of dead fish. Likewise, we join in to satisfy our craving need for sensation. (DOK.fest München)
